“The city bleeds into the face. Boundary between self and grid collapses.”
Series 13 is the most urban of the Circuit Splendor sequence. Here, the distinction between the android portrait and the architectural environment dissolves: grid lines from the cityscape run directly through the figure, conduit shapes echo facial geometry, the built environment and the constructed self become formally indistinguishable. JB's palette draws from industrial materials: concrete grey, oxidized copper, and the amber of sodium streetlight. The portrait reads as infrastructure as much as individual.
