Series 14 closes the Circuit Splendor sequence with a work that carries the full weight of its predecessors. JB makes no attempt here at summary or retrospect; instead the composition pushes further into complexity than any prior chapter, as though the series can only end by exceeding itself. The android portrait in Series 14 is the most formally intricate in the sequence, the mosaic fragments at their smallest, the palette at its most layered. It is a conclusion that reads not as resolution but as a refusal to resolve, an ending that leaves the question open.
