Series 7 engages most directly with the mosaic as formal strategy. The tessellated fragments here are larger and more irregular than in other chapters, their edges sharper, the gaps between them more pronounced. JB uses this visual discontinuity deliberately: the portrait seems to be in the process of either assembling or disassembling, the viewer's eye unsure which direction the image is traveling. The palette returns to the series' cool blue-and-neon register, the familiarity of the chromatics grounding a composition that would otherwise feel vertiginous.
