Fragmented Beauty

“Nothing is broken here. Only rearranged into something more honest.”

Fragmented Beauty takes the contemporary portrait apart at the seams. Faces are bisected, reassembled, and bisected again; features migrate across the picture plane without settling. JB's interest is not in distortion for effect but in what the portrait reveals when its conventional coherence is suspended. The works in this series are more formally challenging than most of the studio's output, making demands on the viewer's willingness to hold ambiguity. But the palette remains approachable throughout, warm and chromatic, a deliberate counterweight to the compositional difficulty. Beauty persists even as the frame comes apart.
